GENERAL OVERVIEW
This study guide will give you a basic approach to studying for your STEP I exam based on your time availability, and the time frame in which you would like to take the exam.
We provide 2 study methods that you can use to study for the exam:
Full time (2 to 3 months) or,
Part time (4 to 6 months)
The following methods give you a roadmap of how to study for the exam and if employed would ensure that you do well on the exam once you put in the work. We also provide an idea of the daily minimum effort needed based on the time you have available before your exam.
Study Objectives
The main goal is to study effectively and efficiently to get the score you would like to attain and to take the exam in a reasonable time frame.
Efficiency is important because the study process can burn you out if it goes on for too long.
Minimum effort required
At the very least to do well on the exam, you want to complete the following:
2 Complete passes of Uworld question bank
1 Complete pass of First AID
2 Uworld Self assessments
Other resources are supplementary and can increase your score but are not absolutely necessary. These include:
Boards and Beyond
Pathoma
Sketchy Pharmacology and Sketchy Microbiology
Anki cards
Key tips:
Your environment matters! You are going to have to study for many hours and this can get overwhelming. If possible, try to get the following:
A study buddy to share the burden with and to keep you accountable
An environment conducive for focus and studying but that is not too isolated (a library or coffee shop)
